An extremely weak AI-vision of Ultron & generic plot hold back AOU from its predecessor’s heights: decent popcorn entertainment with a surprisingly darker tone & great new characters led by Olson’s Scarlet Witch, but a mess of tonal gratings, direction, and antagonism. 4.2/10.

Plot Synopsis: When Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) jump-starts a dormant peacekeeping program, things go terribly awry, forcing him, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and the rest of the Avengers to reassemble. As the fate of Earth hangs in the balance, the team is put to the ultimate test as they battle Ultron, a technological terror hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they encounter two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff.

Pros: Absolutely INCREDIBLE opening action sequence that may still be the best Marvel action scene ever, amazing new characters/adversaries including Aaron Taylor Johnson’s Quiksilver (even though he’s a shameless cheap knockoff by Marvel of DC’s The Flash..) and the absolutely unbelievable new villain of Emily Olson’s Scarlet Witch who steals the show and screen and adds an entire new exciting layer to the Avengers action being able to play mind games and turn them against each other like she does to Stark with the Avengers death vision that jumpstarts the whole movie, great storyline and plot that it’s a shame the movie didn’t execute better overall, great voice acting and design for Ultron with an incredible introduction in the technological mainframe and Jarvis-strangling and opening speech at the Stark Tower party, hilarious moments like the party at Stark tower and trying to lift Mjolnir, awesome comic easter eggs and the surprise inclusion of Vision (may be a Superman copy) but still cool, diverse location settings, definitely delivers in the action scenes in intricate and awesome ones ranging from snowy russia to the Hulkbuster fight in Africa – all until the final Sokovia battle which is overlong and awful, strong acting overall, heartful moments sprinkled in like the romance ones,

Cons: Absolutely bizarre tonal inconsistency going from Marvel’s childish happy formula to a really dark (both visually and audibly) slog that could’ve been cool if it wasn’t so completely out of left field and was kept consistent in the movie as well making it all dark instead of still filling it with quippy and jarring jokes like “language”, boob-planting on Black Widow, weird ugly gray tint in the cinematography and colors that would’ve been cool if the tone matched and was darker but in Marvel and with their jokes it just doesn’t, Ultron DRAMATICALLY nerfed and under-powered from the badass he was in the comics and it’s a shame as he becomes an awful villain who just hides behind his minions and can’t do anything hisself, Romanov reduced from strong female lead (the only one on the entire Avengers.. but that’s none of my business) to a wimpy damsel in distress and Hulk romance puppet/boob-planting joke, AI turning out of control & goijng against its creator overdone in movies, finaly battle in Sokovia overlong, ugly, and awful,
