Rebound (2005)

Though it’s as formulaic a sports movie as they come, Rebound is a fun nostalgia trip through middle-school basketball days elevated by a nice children-cast led by a charismatic and teddy-bear Lawrence subversion of his normal bad-boy physique to nail its target demographic. 6.7/10.

Plot Synopsis: Roy McCormick (Martin Lawrence) is a college basketball coach more famous for his temper than for his coaching ability. After one of his rages gets him banned from the sport, Roy takes a job coaching basketball at a middle school in an attempt to repair his reputation. Amazingly, what Roy began as a show of rehabilitation begins to genuinely change him, and he learns to care for his team. His relationship with local mom Jeanie (Wendy Raquel Robinson) is a good influence as well.
