Expanding the series anthologically with a new setting in England, but thoroughly unscary in old British man A-plot, less fresh and innovative, & lackluster in frights until the strong Nun-fueled finale, TC2 should’ve conjured a better movie. 4.7/10.

Plot Synopsis: In 1977, paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren come out of a self-imposed sabbatical to travel to Enfield, a borough in north London. There, they meet Peggy Hodgson, an overwhelmed single mother of four who tells the couple that something evil is in her home. Ed and Lorraine believe her story when the youngest daughter starts to show signs of demonic possession. As the Warrens try to help the besieged girl, they become the next targets of the malicious spirit.

Pros: Good opening once again teasing a chilling new monster in the Nun, great idea making the series an anthology series not following and ruining the great first one’s story by trying to stretch it out again but seeing if it can achieve again with a new and more ambitious story in an entirely new country and continent altogether, inventive scares and progressive escalation of terror like the fire engine toy back-and-forth – slow tension building, good location setting looking and playing a lot like the cold dreary rainy setting of The Exorcist – probably not a mistake either after Wan displayed how much of a classic Horror fan he was with all of the Easter Eggs and references stuffed in to the first one, Nun storyline fantastic and the perfect storyline the film should’ve focused more on instead of this tired and unscary old British man plot, intriguing subplot of whether some may be faking these events, great ending intricate in blurry camera POV shots and exciting as soon as it gets rid of the bad Bill storyline and reveals was just a pawn used by the Nun – would’ve been GREAT if it was the main focus and not put on the backburner until the last mere 30 min (and went down so easily)

Cons: Doesn’t need the opening warning we’ve investigated so much and nothing scared us except this – comes across a little cheesy and unneeded self-hyping the story if anything doing a disservice to it, takes a bit to get going again same as last time, Nun the most interesting part of the film and not given nearly enough room to breathe and spotlight (and went down way too easily), Bill storyline not scary enough – the ghost having a British accent and old man not really intimidating like in the interview – just doesn’t have the same effect or freshness of the first one and is ~boring especially in the painful middle act resorting to cheap snarls and roars and arguing about whose house it is (maybe they just needed a real estate agent to clear this all up) than the inventive horror and scares of the first one, Nun not given enough explanation or enough of a fight in the finale
