Pixar’s Turning Red (2022)

Though it’s ~ruined by the age-demographic cringe & one of the ugliest art-styles in the *history* of animation [continuing Pixar’s bizarre 2010’s-on design-devolution], T.R. is a decorous project by celebratory diversity representation for the most (paradoxically) forgotten-yet-populous world culture in Hollywood: Asians & complex allegory juxtaposing mythology/animal symbolism w. mixed heritage exposition and taboo-liberated coming-of-age themes like puberty, menstruation. 6.2/10.

Plot Synopsis: Mei Lee is a 13-year-old girl who is torn between being her mother’s obedient daughter and the chaos of her youth. As if that were not enough, when she gets too excited, she turns into a big red panda.
