Twin Peaks (1990)

Though eerie in atmospherics/score as expansive as its natural valley backdrop, original Twin Peaks is awfully-acted in cacophonous forced overdramatics w. snail-slow pacing for a small-town mystery better in concept than final product. 4.2/10.

Plot Synopsis: A crime drama mixed with healthy doses of the surreal, this series is about FBI Agent Dale Cooper, who travels to the small logging town of Twin Peaks to solve the murder of seemingly innocent high schooler Laura Palmer. Almost nothing is as it seems, however, and the show’s sometimes eerie visuals, oddball characters and wild dream sequences drive the point home.

Positives: fantastic natural cinematography of the picturesque Yosemite-ic Twin Peaks valley, dark tone and opening finding body on the beach and parents finding out as well as snaking mystery of twisty whodunit snaking in growing bizarrity, wide atmospherics as expansive and eerily quiet as its natural surrounding, phenomenal score eerie synthscapes pads fascinating intriguing indie-flaired score everything from sneaky catlike jazz downbeats and hi-hat rolls to synths juxtaposing the melancholic Shining-like pads, does improve a little as it goes but is still awful overall not nearly cashing on its darkness in concept enough in piss-poor execution – am I missing something of why this series is considered anything more than mediocre ’90’s stab at murder-mysteries? Did I watch a different program or something? Am I getting punk’d? Maybe it set the trend in mass media so people are overrating it a solid 50-60%, but this doesn’t hold a candle to modern dramas

Negatives: Acting is extremely rough around the edges and unduly goofy/cringey in parts but hey it’s the 90’s guess they didn’t have tonal consistency back then.., so cacophonous and overdramatic feeling like its more out of a Shakespearean B-production serious murder TV show with everyone bursting into tears fake-crying for some rando girl from their school dying – even the principal who probably interacted with her 1-2x if it’s anything like a normal school, pacing is insanely slow and uneventful takes minutes just to pander around with things like a policeman describing what he had for breakfast and having to witness everyone in the town literally break down like children over this one person’s death like what?
