Phenomenally acted with strong performances/cast led by show-stealing McAvoy’s Professor X & Fassbender’s downright-chilling Magneto, great visual FX, expert handling of comics, compelling villain, & stylish direction/tone, FC is the definitive X-Men film. 8.4/10.
Plot Synopsis: Before Professor X and Magneto were sworn enemies, they were close friends. Depicting the beginning of the X-Men and set in the 1960’s, First Class follows the story of Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) & Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) as they meet and gather a group of mutants to stop Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon) and his own group of mutants from aiding the start of a nuclear war that will wipe out humanity as we know it.

Pros: Gripping opening sequences of Magneto’s origin, unbelievable acting by Fassbender as Magneto – legendary performance and perhaps one of the best superhero movie history, extremely strong performances by James McAvoy and gorgeous Jennifer Lawrence, unsuspectingly genius villain in deliciously evil and phenomenally-acted Kevin Bacon’s Sebastian Shaw, great cinematography and visuals – fantastic effects bringing the mutants’ powers to life, love the evolutionary respect and educational angle in the film too explaining mutations to those who may not be familiar with how they can lead to huge changes in life on the planet over time, imaginative idea & period setting in the cold war era, great easter eggs (including the last Magneto costume one) and comic references/jokes, impeccable scoring especially for the Magneto sequences, stylish and smart script with intelligent social commentary on outsiders vs. the majority,
Cons: Slightly lackluster second half, Poor and very clichéd ending, overlong and stretched-out final act, X-Men a copy of DC’s Doom Patrol (like many of Marvel’s heroes, look it up) which will always taint X-Men’s legacy as far as I’m concerned, trying to fit in the nuclear war angle unnecessary & doesn’t work with how fantastical X-Men are
